Our FS1 and FS2 team have been awarded their first Quality Mark, based upon ‘outstanding evidence’ of developing basic skills such as communication, interaction, attitudes for learning, literacy and numeracy during their time in Early Years Foundation Stage.

The assessors visited school to look through records of evidence towards each of the 10 elements of the award. They then took part in a ‘learning walk’ around the EYFS setting, to see the children ‘in action’. They were very impressed with the way children were working hard and tackling challenges independently across all areas of learning. They also loved the high-quality, enabling environment created for our youngest learners.

We were pleased to show our assessors where the PTA had funded our very popular reading areas in both year groups, and also how the PE funding had added to our outdoor provision – thank you very much to those who have contributed to these areas, they really do have a great impact upon our children’s outcomes.

Here is a section from the assessment record:

“The assessors would like to thank Howden Church of England Infant School for their warm welcome and engagement during this visit. The extremely well organised, thorough and detailed preparation for the visit made by the Basic Skills Quality Mark lead in school led to a very comprehensive and detailed report being able to be written. You provided a wonderfully rich overview of the passion, care and commitment of the Early Years Foundation Stage team and Senior Leadership Team – in fact all staff within the school place on the outcomes of your children.

It really was a pleasure to visit the school. Thank you!!”

Well done to all children and staff – we are extremely proud of you!
